Game: Liquid War

Liquid War Review

Liquid War is one of the more creative simulation-type games that you'll run across. You get your own color of liquid and pit it against up to five other liquids, either human or computer controlled. Surround the other liquids to "eat" them and grow in number. You'll grow to fill the screen if you do things right and shrink to nothing if you don't. Things can change in an instant: You'll be on top of the world when suddenly the yellow troops break out and start eating you before you notice them. Just like that you'll be surround and reduced to a speck. For some reason the game kind of reminds me of a really fast Risk game with alot more emphisis on skill. Apparently work is being donw on a Liquid War 6.

Rating

Graphics

***** - Well, there's really not much you can do with liquid. And it's not really liquid, it's more like clumps              of hyper particles. The particles get darker when their health goes down, which can look              pretty. The included maps are alright. You can change the colors and make your own maps so the              graphics really depend on you.

Sound

***** - MIDIs: Blah. All of the songs are MIDIs and while some of them are good, they all start to sound              the same. There are some nice water related sound effects that occur randomly however, like              toilets flushing.

Gameplay

***** - The gameplay is suprisingly action-filled. Your clump of liquid follows your little round cursor and              you need to surround the other teams to win. Sometimes the game can get slow at the end when               it's obvious that player is the winner. But sometimes there's a big comeback.

Difficulty

***** - The AI is quick and crafty and very hard to beat. You can crank down the level if you're having too              much trouble.

Replayability

***** - The replayability is good. The gameplay is different on each map and since there are so many              included and you can make your own you really have an infinate number of maps and an infinite                replayability level.
